The Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products – Swissmedic – was created on January 1, 2002, from the merger of the Intercantonal Office for the Control of Medicines and the Therapeutic Products Section of the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health. Swissmedic’s mission is to guarantee that only high quality, safe and effective therapeutic products are on sale in Switzerland. No medicine can be put on sale without the agency’s authorisation.
