Swiss conductor receives Légion d'honneur

French ambassador André Gadaud has presented the Swiss conductor Armin Jordan with the Légion d’honneur at a ceremony at the Grand Théatre in Geneva.

French ambassador André Gadaud has presented the Swiss conductor Armin Jordan with the Légion d’honneur at a ceremony at the Grand Théatre in Geneva.

Born in Lucerne in 1932, Jordan was artistic director of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande from 1985 to 1997, after holding a similar post with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra for 12 years. Previous appointments include head of opera in Zurich and Basel, and music director at the St.Gallen Theatre.

He went on many international tours as head of the Suisse-Romande orchestra, and also spent six years leading the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris.

Jordan’s other connections with French orchestras include recordings with the Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the country’s national orchestra.
