Leuthard discusses energy in Azerbaijan
Swiss Energy Minister Doris Leuthard spent Monday in Azerbaijan discussing energy issues.
The focus was on implementing the memorandum of understanding signed between the two nations in 2007.
Leuthard, accompanied by a variety of Swiss business and science leaders, met Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev as well as energy and industry minister Natig Aliyev and environment minister Huseyn Bagirov in Baku.
The delegates examined ways of boosting cooperation in the form of energy projects, in part by making it easier for private companies to become active in either country’s energy sector.
For Switzerland, improved security in the supplies of natural gas and petroleum was an issue of particular interest. The delegates also discussed the Trans-Adriatic-Pipeline (TAP) project.
In addition, Leuthard took advantage of the chance to meet representatives of Swiss firms based in Azerbaijan.
