Nuclear safety watchdog gets glowing report
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has praised the Swiss nuclear safety watchdog for several “good practices”, including transparency.
Following a two-week inspection of Swiss nuclear sites, the IAEA said it was satisfied with the system of security implemented by the Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate.
“Our team considers the Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate to be credible in its actions to improve the security of nuclear plants in Switzerland,” Jean-Christophe Niel, head of the IAEA mission to Switzerland, said in a statement.
However, the IAEA also said the Swiss government must move quickly to define the new framework under which the inspectorate will have the power to operate and authorise nuclear activities.
