Italy takes Switzerland off black list

The Swiss government has applauded a decision by Italy on Friday to remove a measure which it said discriminated against Swiss businesses.

Last summer Italy placed Switzerland on a black list which meant that Swiss businesses wanting to tender for public sector contracts in Italy were required to obtain authorisation first from the Italian finance ministry.

The European Commission last month initiated an investigation into the black listing as a possible violation of European treaties.

In a statement on Friday, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) welcomed the Italian decision to lift the black listing, which it said would assure Swiss business access to the Italian market.
