Calmy-Rey holds talks with Arab League head
Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey has met with the general secretary of the Arab League to discuss bilateral relations with Libya.
Calmy-Rey and Amr Moussa spoke on Friday at the World Economic Forum (WEF), currently underway in the Swiss resort town of Davos.
Because of the tense relations between Switzerland and Libya, no Libyan nationals have been allowed into the country for this year’s annual WEF meeting.
At last year’s meeting, Calmy-Rey held talks with one of Gadaffi’s sons in an attempt to resolve the conflict.
Moussa told a media conference after the meeting that he was clear on the Swiss position and would see what he could do.
Foreign ministry spokesman Lars Knuchel said the discussions also touched on international human rights, more clarifications on Switzerland’s minaret ban and the question of a diplomatic conference the United Nations has asked Switzerland to organise.
Calmy-Rey also met with her Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki. The two discussed Switzerland’s role in representing United States interests in Iran.
The foreign ministry declined to disclose whether the issue of Iran’s nuclear programme was brought up.
