Crime in Switzerland may have fallen overall in 2010, but statistics nevertheless show an increase in drug and immigration offences for the period.

The number of crimes recorded in the Police Crime Statistics by the Federal Statistics Office declined to 656,858 in 2010, compared with 676,309 in 2009 – a drop of two per cent.
However, infractions of the Narcotics Act increased four per cent, while violations of the Aliens Law rose by seven per cent, the statistics office said on Monday. Crimes involving minors declined eight per cent.
Crimes under the penal code – 80 per cent of all offences – declined by five per cent. There were 378,781 incidents of property crime and 46,412 acts of violence, three per cent of which were classified as acts of serious violence.
In 2010, there were 53 murders, 189 cases of attempted murder, 487 grievous bodily harm offences and 543 cases of rape.
