The Swiss-run ICRC said two teams comprising ten surgeons and nurses from the Norwegian and German Red Cross organisations had arrived in Libya over the past week.
One team has been sent to Al Jalaa Hospital in Benghazi which has received the majority of casualties since the crisis broke out, the Geneva-based ICRC said. A second team was posted to Ajdabya Central Hospital which has also cared for dozens injured in clashes around the city.
An ICRC representative in Benghazi said hospitals had coped “so far” with the influx of casualties and the organisation was concentrating on replenishing medical supplies.
“Today [on Sunday] in cooperation with the Libyan Red Crescent, we also sent enough surgical supplies and equipment to treat 100 injured people in the west of the country,” he said.
