Leuthard talks green economy in Kenya
Swiss Environment Minister Doris Leuthard has underlined the need for collective international action in favour of the green economy.
Speaking at the Forum of Environment Ministers currently taking place in Nairobi, Kenya, Leuthard said economic progress and environmental protection went hand in hand.
Environment ministers and experts gathered in Nairobi from Monday to discuss reforming world environment governance in order to better manage crises linked to climate change and environmental degradation.
Delegates from 140 countries, 80 of them at ministerial level, attended the 26th session of the governing council of the United Nations Environment Programme, headquartered in Nairobi.
Leuthard also said she would like to see the green economy “Road Map” adopted at the next meeting of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development in New York in May.
