Parliament to pick ministers and wrap up reform

Parliament will be in the media focus over the next three weeks Keystone

Elections to the cabinet, reform of the pension scheme and laws on wild animals are high on the agenda of parliament’s regular autumn session, which begins on Monday.

Both chambers are due to choose two new government ministers to replace the outgoing finance and transport ministers on September 22.

Six candidates are in the running for the posts in the multi-party cabinet.

Parliament is also expected to wrap up more than two years of debate on reforms to the state’s old age pension scheme.

The bill is aimed at increasing the retirement age of women to 65, in line with men, easing early retirement and slowing down inflation-linked pension hikes.

Other issues on the table are measures against wolves and lynxes threatening the livelihood of sheep farmers, as well as a law about certain dog breeds.

Over the next three weeks discussions are also planned on the liberalisation of the postal market as well as the system of linking rents for accommodation to bank mortgage rates.
