Talks show promise in Swiss-Sino relations
Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey met her Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi in Beijing on Tuesday for talks both described as “successful”.
Speaking to journalists shortly before leaving for home, Calmy-Rey said human rights had been one of the topics discussed, but she gave no further details.
She said that during the “very, very good” talks they had agreed that the meeting had been full of promise for the continuing development of bilateral relations.
Calmy-Rey’s three-day trip started with a visit to the Shanghai World Expo on Sunday, and continued with political discussions in Beijing on Monday and Tuesday.
Several of the experts who accompanied her are staying on in Beijing to continue bilateral dialogue, first established back in 1991, which includes such topics as humanitarian and economic issues, environmental protection and disarmament
