From cinema stars to sports celebrities, international jetsetters will be hitting the slopes in Switzerland this ski season. As in previous years, resorts like Crans-Montana, Verbier, Gstaad and St Moritz all top the list of popular destinations.

In canton Valais, actor Roger Moore, French singer Gilbert Bécaud, and composer Michel Legrand will be celebrating the New Year at Crans-Montana.

Meanwhile, celebrity spotters may catch a glimpse of actresses Marthe Keller and Isabelle Huppert on the slopes in neighbouring Verbier. The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, who is a regular on the Swiss ski scene, will be spending some time at Verbier’s Mont-Fort resort.

Canton Graubünden is another top destination for the world’s royalty. Prince Charles is expected at the Klosters resort during the month of January while Monaco’s Grimaldi family will be skiing at St Moritz.

Unofficial royalty, like Italy’s Agnelli family, of Fiat fame and fortune, will also be in Switzerland.

Resorts in the Bernese Oberland are expecting their fair share of glitz and glamour this season. The German president, Johannes Rau, the violinist, Vanessa Mae, and the writer, John Le Carré, are all expected at the Wengen resort.

Formula One driver, Jacques Villeneuve, will make his annual pit stop at Villars-sur-Ollon in canton Vaud.
