Swiss architect’s most famous works
Peter Zumthor is known for buildings that are responsive to their location and function. He also considers very carefully which materials are used and the atmospheric quality of the spaces the buildings encompass.
Choosing his projects carefully, Zumthor has built up a reputation both in Switzerland and abroad. Among his most notable works are the Bregenz Art Museum in Austria, the Swiss Sound Box, the Swiss Pavilion at the Expo 2000 in Hannover, and the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London. In Switzerland Zumthor is particularly noted for the Therme Vals in Graubünden – the canton he has made his home.
Zumthor has just released a monograph which covers his architecture from 1985 until the present day. Widely admired for his precision and thoroughness, the Pritzker-prize winner has completed 52 projects. Another 17 are still being realised. The monograph has 856 pages with over 750 photographs, plans, sketches, drawings and watercolors, and with texts written by Zumthor.
